Season of Hope

Jen's favorite pond, that is short on water due to the hot summer conditions. Jen and her neighbor were trying to add water from a nearby well but really we should have prayed for rain.

When I comes to my Pilgrimage, I’m in a season of waiting. For just over a week I’ve been querying agents again. Averaging maybe two a day, with a very slow trickle of rejections coming through…which fills me with dangerous hope.

In the meantime, I’ve been obsessing over our backyard pond. It’s drying up and we haven’t had rain here in what seems like months. Our pond is very important to myself and our neighbors – the best neighbors in the world – Doug and Francine! They have spent the past few days calling around and trying to see how we can revive and better maintain the water level. I think all of their hard work has finally paid off, because when I sat down to write today in my usual spot, I saw the sprinkler system all around the pond running for the first time in probably two years! And even better, one sprinkler head was broken, so it was just gushing water right into the pond! Hooray!!! I can’t wait to see if the sprinklers run again in a few days! I know, this seems like such a granny thing to fuss about, but since I stay home full time and get SO MUCH of my inspiration from that pond, she has my heart!

I’ve also been fulfilling some of my presidential duties for my sorority’s alumnae chapter. Webinars, Zoom meetings, and planning activities for the next year: it’s really lovely being a part of something larger, impacting people from a local to the national level. A few years ago, Alpha Gamma Delta shifted their philanthropy focus to Fighting Hunger – such a worthy cause and it offers so many more opportunities to get involved in our communities. September is Hunger Action Month and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Feeding America – just one of the many charities that the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation benefits.

I did write something I’m proud of last week, something that I’ll be submitting for the #FallWritingFrenzy on Twitter. 200 words was the requirement and I’ve been picking through every last one of mine to make sure it’s just right. The piece is very different and not really picture book material; more like Middle Grade, which isn’t something I’ve ever explored before. I’m looking forward to submitting it on October 1 – I’m not sure if I understand the stakes, but it sure was fun writing something with a different voice and for a completely different audience. If you’re interested in participating in the #FallWritingFrenzy there is still plenty of time!!

Featured Image is of my efforts to refill our pond the other day using what we assumed was a well water valve…we were told later it may not be well water, so we got nervous and turned it off. Praying for rain over here!
