Our Pond Runneth Over

The view of Jen's favorite pond from her back yard after a plentiful rain storm. Cotton Wood, Wheeping Willow, and Bald Cyprus trees line the pond's bank.

Thank you, JESUS, for this glorious rain!!! Apparently, there’s even more where this came from! I’ll take it.

I’ll take my clothes and hair being completely drenched because of the sudden downpour as I arrived home after errands. Then, there was no power because it’s THAT big of a storm…and I couldn’t open the garage to get inside. But, I left my backdoor unlocked, so I made my way through the backyard gate and traversed the flooding and slanty side yard packed in mud! And I didn’t even fall!

I’ll take the smell of wet dog all day long because it’s been forever since we’ve had a good soaking like this! And, by the way, our pond is full again!! At least for now…

The past few weeks, during Pond Talk between Francine and me, there haven’t been any viable solutions for our pond drying-up problem. EXCEPT RAIN!!! Of course, RAIN! We’d given up on our selfish skies! But today, FINALLY the clouds were merciful and have graced us with heavenly amounts of water. Our hope is restored! Our pond runneth over!

Still no power, so I’ve got my windows open and it finally feels like fall! I’ve lit my Pumpkin Apple candle from Bath and Body Works, just to keep the fun going, and to combat the wet dog smell! Just now, I hear geese honking for the first time in a while, and I looked over and there they were, coming in for a landing on our revitalized pond. Thank you God!

I’m participating in #FaithPitch today on Twitter and my first tweet this morning received several very positive comments from fellow writers. It’s been a really lovely morning. The big rain, with a trip to the library and some much appreciated validation from Twitter colleagues. And, both my laptop and my phone have enough battery to get everything done that needs doing!

One other tidbit: I did receive a rejection email the other day…FINALLY! It was from an acquisitions editor at a publishing house I’d queried on Labor Day. She told me my story was “charming.” Thank you, I thought so too! But she’s the first professional to say so, and I truly appreciated it!

Power is back on now! I shut all the windows and my A/C is roaring once more. And now, I can successfully post this blog entry! Yay!
