Flying High

A few weeks ago, I was geared up to fly to Seattle for a film festival; a research trip for my very special non-fiction project. I was all packed, spending some time working on my laptop when suddenly…my phone dings: it was the hospice nurse sharing that my dad had fallen.

That news was absolutely awful. Almost sickening. Part of me wondered if I was not meant to go on this trip. I knew I needed to check on him, and I had just enough time before my flight, so I ran over to his Memory Care center.

He was mostly fine: just some “rug burn” like abrasions on his elbows from the tile floor and a little eyebrow cut. So, we spent some lovely time outside, listening to our favorite music together, and I knew everything was going to be okay.

As I pulled away, I got a strange phone call. I didn’t recognize the number, but it said Lubbock, TX. I flipped through my mental rolodex, and just in time, I recalled, “I know someone in Lubbock…” I answered with a questioning, “Hello?”

IT WAS MY AGENT.

I’d literally never talked ON the phone with her before – always email and Zoom. So, my stomach dropped. What is she calling to tell me????

Well, all I can say is… It was good news! BIG good news! Bigger than I ever expected! And I’m feeling so blessed. I promise, the second I can share more, I will.

After I finished calling/texting all my loved ones and mentors, I did make my trip to Seattle. It was a great success! I met some wonderful people at the festival and got the information I needed to sort of ‘book-end’ the research side of my project. And a bonus: I really enjoyed my time at the Space Needle!

A beautiful view from the Space Needle, rainbow and all

I spent nearly two hours up there reflecting and taking it all in, and just feeling grateful to God for His faithfulness and for answering my prayers out of the goodness of His love. All in all, it’s been a truly wonderful past few weeks.

The non-fiction project that took me to Seattle is truly my HEART project. I can hardly wait to share it with you! But alas, it’s MUCH too early, and must remain a secret for now.

Thanks so much for hopping aboard the Jen train! I think things are about to get REALLY interesting!
